ITINERARY

Day 1 LIMA

You’ll arrive at the international airport in Lima (the majority of flights arrive at night between 8pm and 2am). Our team will be waiting with a private vehicle to take you to the hotel of your choice. Depending on your flight schedule, you will have the opportunity to visit some of the most important sites and museums in Lima. (Optional).

Day 2 LIMA – CUSCO

Early in the morning, you’ll return to the Lima airport to take your flight to Cusco, the former capital of the Inca Empire. Upon your arrival, the Land of the Inkas team will be waiting to greet you. During the trip to the center in a private vehicle, the guide will give a brief introductory talk about the city. After lunch, we’ll visit the most important tourist sites in the city and the surroundings. This is an opportunity to try new things, learn and understand the history of Cusco. We’ll visit churches, museums and archeological sites, including the fortress of Saqsaywaman and the complexes of Qenqo, Pucapucara and Tambomachay. All of these were highly important sites in the Inca religion and are located close to Cusco. After our explorations, we’ll return you to your hotel to spend the night.

Day 3 CUSCO – APURIMAC- RÍO URUBAMBA (rafting)

In the morning, we will travel in a private vehicle to the put in point on the Apurimac. We’ll start our rafting adventure with easy, safe rapids to practice basic techniques, all the while exploring the river and coming across ancient Andean terraces. The rapids continue and increase in difficulty up to Class IV. After the last section, we’ll have our lunch and then head to Ollantaytambo, which awaits us with its beautiful streets and archeological site. At the end of the day, you’ll return to Cusco to relax in the comforts of your hotel.

Day 4 HUCHUY QOSQO (hike)

After breakfast, we’ll take private transport to Chinchero, visiting the village of Cora and Lake Qoricocha along the way. Chinchero is the starting point of the old Inca trail to the ruins at Huchuy Qosqo (meaning “Little Cusco” in Quechua), high up on a mountain overlooking the Sacred Valley. You’ll discover more than the fantastic views while exploring the site, including terraces and other Inca structures, before we continue to the rustic village of Pucamarca to enjoy our picnic lunch. A private bus will be waiting to take us back to Cusco, where you’ll have dinner and relax in your hotel. Hike: roughly 8.2 miles, 6 hours.

Day 5 VIA FERRATA – ZIP LINE

A bus will pick you up this morning and take you to the Sacred Valley to start your day’s tour. An expert guide will accompany you as you discover the beauty of the valleys and mountains here. You’ll arrive at and then climb a Via Ferrata route, a system of metal cables and rungs bolted into a sheer cliff overlooking the Sacred Valley. Once you’ve reached the top, you’ll be clipped into a zip line and glide the 300ft back down to the valley bottom. All the necessary safety gear and expert assistance will be provided for both experiences. At the end of the day’s exciting activities, we’ll take you to Ollantaytambo where you can explore the nearby ruins before retiring to your local hotel for the night.

Day 6 SACRED VALLEY (cycling)

Early this morning, we’ll drive out to the indigenous communities of Chequereq and Cruz Pata to start our mountain biking trip. We’ll continue on bike to the ruins of Moray, which were used during the Inca Empire as an agricultural experimentation laboratory. We’ll next bike to Maras and the salt pools near Pichingoto. Our day’s journey ends with lunch in      Ollantaytambo; you’ll have the afternoon free before spending the night in your hotel in Ollantaytambo.

Day 7 OLLANTAYTAMBO- MACHU PICCHU

We’ll start today by taking the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, passing cloud forests along the way. Once we arrive, we’ll check into the hotel and then take a bus up to the citadel of Machu Picchu, a symbol of the Inca Empire. Your guide will assist you in exploring and understanding this incredible Inca complex. At the end of your tour, we’ll take a bus back down to Aguas Calientes to enjoy the soothing hot springs there before having dinner and returning to your hotel.

Day 8 MACHU PICCHU

You’ll get an early start today as we return to the royal citadel of Machu Picchu to enjoy a sacred sunrise and a hike up Huayna Picchu. We’ll also explore some of the more interesting sites around the ruins. In the afternoon, we’ll catch the train back to Ollantaytambo and then continue on in a private car to the textile market in Chinchero. At the market, you’ll be shown the process of making alpaca wool textiles and have the opportunity to buy some before we return to the hotel in Cusco.

Day 9 CUSCO-LIMA

On the final day, we’ll take you to the Cusco airport for your return flight to Lima and your connecting flight home.
