Equestrian tourism with Andean Rural Horses
Instinct offers horse lovers who are serious and experienced equestrians mixed trail tours from 1 to 4 days with Andean Rural Horses. Riders must understand horses and be able to interpret any situation of well-being and security for themselves, and of course, for the horses. We combine our exciting horseback activities with a broad cultural mix, by visiting archeological sites, communities, weaving expeditions, local markets, and other interesting places in and around Cusco. Each day will include a picnic style lunch prepared on site. If opting for a multiple day tour, you will enjoy dinner in a dining tent, a campfire under the stars, and camping in quality equipment. For your convenience Instinct can organize your entire trip in Peru including flights, transfers, hotels, additional tours, and other needs that you might have while here in Cusco and Peru.
The surrounding areas of Cusco offer serious horse riders a wealth of challenges on the mountain trails that are sometimes quite narrow and steep. Additionally the rider and horse are continually tested as the altitude increases, or they are confronted with weather such as strong sun, rain or cold. Given these conditions, we believe that the discipline and structure of the RAID, without its competitive aspects, is how to control and monitor our Equestrian tours, to insure the welfare of both the rider and the horse.
The RAID is a test of speed and endurance of the horse, and of the rider's skill and knowledge. At a more fundamental level, it is the partnership and connection between horse and rider to cross natural terrain, often wild and rugged, enduring the elements, in order to reach the final destination with a healthy horse that is in good condition. Our tours follow these basic principles, which at times demand that a rider must walk in order to pass through certain extreme terrain without endangering themselves or their horse. Horses will be checked for their health and wellbeing at least twice a day during the ride.
Like many horse lovers we could claim to be half man half horse in full communion with nature while galloping freely. We like to imagine that the noble equine uses, while riding, our rationale to project his own agility and strength, in a new form. We sense the mental rapport between rider and horse that can be understood as a kind of syncretism.
